Hello, I'm Neal Codere, the owner of this website. I've always been fascinated with snakes and have been catching them for as long as I can remember. I was always told to leave the venomous snakes alone, but when I became a teenager I often refused to listen. Since I lived in Louisiana this meant I would catch Cottonmouths and Copperheads mostly.
When I got older I started to get interested in scorpions, so I did that for awhile while doing snakes. That's when I realized that the more unique looking scorpions were from a more venoumous family called Centruroides. That made me start looking at the different venomous snakes and then I realized the venomous snakes are way more unique and better looking than the non-venomous.
So for the last 20 years I've been dealing with venomous snakes. Now I needed to get my permit so I could keep the species that I was interested in. In 2013 I started working with a friend who had his permit so I could get properly trained. I finally acquired my permit in 2016 after filling out the necessary paperowrk.
If you keep anything venomous, then you know there's not really a place dedicated solely to venomous and if they do have forums, it's limited or generic with the places to post. The other reason is that it is hard to find current information regarding the laws specific to venomous.
The truth is there's no real place that is dedicated specifically to everything venomous. If there's no real place with information then how are you as a buyer and/or seller supposed to know the laws?
The reason I created Venom Life is to educate anybody that is interested in learning about anything venomous. I also wanted to have current and accurate information regarding the laws for every state which includes what species can be kept and if a permit is required or not. Please keep in mind that on top of state laws, some parishes/counties and even cities have additional laws.
One of my main goals is to provide a place that is focused around everything venomous, whether it be reptiles, insects, etc. I will try to be as helpful as I can be with people in the hobby or people looking to get into the hobby.
